How are people with motor neurone disease (MND) in Gateshead, Middlesbrough and Redcar supported by statutory bodies and voluntary organisations?

Motor Neurone Disease is a chronic, progressive degenerative disease that leads to muscle wasting and loss of muscle function. Under the National Service Framework’s (NSF’s) for long term neurological conditions implemented in 2005, people with motor neurone disease MND in the Gateshead Middlesbrough and Redcar should find that care, support and advice is much more readily available. The NSF’s ensure that the health care professionals and managers, carers and voluntary organisations work together with the patients to ensure that the quality of life of the MND suffer, from diagnosis to end of life is maintained. It also aims to ensure that the individual can lead an independent life.
