Renewing an Application
When it is time to renew your patent application, it is wise to start the application at the beginning of the twenty-first year as it can take awhile to make sure that all of the paperwork is correct and that no changes or upgrades have been made to your patent. If they have, then you may have to file a new application. You are not guaranteed a renewal at the end of your twenty-one years. A new application has to be submitted at the end of each patent term. There could be new applicants with similar inventions that have to be reviewed.
